At PY828, we teach what we call “non-commercial yoga.” Here, a yoga practice isn’t about a certain outfit or being super flexible, but feeling at home in your body and connected to your spirit. Rooted in traditional Indian teachings, our practice supports your nervous system and includes breathwork, meditation, and an introduction to yogic philosophy.

 

We’re especially passionate about teaching beginners and students who may feel out of place at a trendy, Western-style class. We offer an inclusive, welcoming, non-competitive environment where students of all ages, bodies, genders, and levels can cultivate physical well-being, mental focus, and emotional balance.

At Purna Yoga 828, we specialize in giving beginners the foundation they need to safely and joyously dedicate themselves to the path of yoga.

Start Yoga Now is our signature five-week series for total beginners, held several times each year. We start from the absolute basics and move at a mindful pace so no yogi is left behind. Looking for a fresh approach to your yoga practice? Learn what makes Purna Yoga® different:

Purna Yoga is a particular style of yoga. Purna means whole or complete in Sanskrit, and Purna Yoga aims to support the whole you: body, mind, emotions, and spirit. 

 

Every Purna Yoga class involves a little meditation, a focus on the breath and the nervous system, and physical poses, while weaving in yogic philosophy in a practical way that applies to daily living. 

 

We don’t use playlists. We don’t teach a set sequence. We take time to answer questions. We create space for exploration and variations, so your practice meets you where you are now as well as pointing the way towards growth and change. Read descriptions of all our classes here.

What?

We have all the props you need, but you are welcome to bring your own mat. Sign up for our First Timers Pass and get two weeks of unlimited classes for $39!

Wear?

Please wear comfortable clothing that feels good to move in while allowing you to see your body as you practice the poses. We invite you to wear colors that make you feel good as well.

When?

Arrive to class 10 minutes early if it’s your first time so that you and your teacher can talk about any injuries, limitations or concerns you might have. See you in class!
