30 Aug 2013 the psoas: muscle of the soul
Though written in 2011, I just recently came across The Psoas: Muscle of the Soul on Danielle Prohom Olson’s blog, body divine yoga. Talk about food for thought! As avid readers know, I’ve been focusing on the psoas lately, in my own practice and in my writing. In fact, my right psoas will be the locus of my intention in my meditation plans for my birthday.
As an introduction to Liz Koch and the notion of the psoas as “an organ of perception composed of bio-intelligent tissue,”* Olson’s writing points to some new ways of thinking about this core muscle. While I don’t consider the article to be much more than an cursory introduction, and I certainly haven’t even begun to scratch the surface of Koch’s work and writing; I’m intrigued by what she has to say. The comments are full of online gold as well.
Here’s hoping this article sparks the pursuit of greater knowledge about the psoas in you as well.
*I don’t even pretend to know what this phrase means, but I look forward to unpacking it and giving it the “sniff test”. Once I figure out what it means, I’ll let you know whether I think it’s a true characterization of the muscle or not.
