10 Nov 2016 Now What? 9 Things to Do After the Election
Wow. Here we are, two days after the election. What to say? I spent all day yesterday wondering what to say to myself, my family, friends and students. I finally settled on a list of things you can do over the next few days, weeks, months, years that will support you in whatever times we’re living in now.
9 Things to Do to Feel Better Now
1. Get to class. Practice at home. Meditate. Move around. Keep your body strong, healthy, and a welcome home for your inner light.
2. Eat organic as much as possible. Avoid GMOs like the plague. Drink filtered water with gratitude for each precious drop. Join a CSA. Cook at home, with family, with love.
3. Avoid social media and media outlets, especially if you’re already feeling low. Take a FaceBook break.
4. Spend time in Nature. Honor our precious planet. Do what you can to keep her healthy.
5. Get involved. Meet your neighbors. Volunteer. Keep the issues you think are important in front of the people who are in power. Speak up. Speak out. Call racism, sexism, homophobia, and hatred out when you see it. Especially if you’re white. And privileged.
6. Love more. Start with yourself and then spread that to others.
7. Shower often, cleaning the energy and distractions of the outer world off your body, so you can be more centered and focused on your heart center. And when you can’t shower, wash your hands and feet as often as possible. And definitely, stop wearing outside shoes in your home.
8. Keep fresh flowers and plants in your home to celebrate nature’s beauty.
9. Spend time each day cultivating beautiful feelings so that it will be easier to meet hate with love.
I’ll leave you also with a quote from FDR’s first inaugural address:
“This is preeminently the time to speak the truth, the whole truth, frankly and boldly. Nor need we shrink from honestly facing conditions in our country today. This great Nation will endure as it has endured, will revive and will prosper. So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself—nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.”
Be ready to speak truth, people. We’re going to need that.
