Would you like to…
- Gain more strength & flexibility while alleviating pain?
- Learn how to manage stress more effectively?
- Learn more about yourself (physically and mentally) through the lens of the science of yoga?
Then, it’s time to Start Yoga Now with Letitia Walker & Whitney Shroyer!
This 5-week course is designed for the total beginner. If you’ve been thinking about practicing yoga and want to develop a movement practice that is more than just exercise, this is your invitation to dive in and start yoga now. Each 75-min class covers the basics to give students the confidence and knowledge to join any of our all-level classes.
While this series is designed for beginners, it is not suitable for those recovering from recent surgeries (such as knee replacement or rotator cuff repair), or for students who rely on mobility aids or need additional assistance getting up and down from the floor. If you fall into these categories, we recommend starting with our Chair Yoga class, which offers a more supportive and accessible introduction to yoga.
Students explore a variety of poses and series, from standing to supine, twists, forward bends and backbends, and even beginning inversions. You’ll gain more strength and flexibility while alleviating pain, and learn how to manage stress more effectively with simple breathing practices and Heartfull® Meditation techniques.
And because sometimes doing new things by yourself can be intimidating, we’ve got a special offer for two who sign up together. For any two folks who want to come to class together (friends, spouses, siblings, partners) we’ve got a special deal of two for $145. If you’d like to sign up for yourself and another student, simply purchase the Start Yoga Now for 2 pass and then send us an email with the name of the other student and we’ll take care of registration for them.
This series is the chance to build a deeper connection with yourself while also learning the essential series and movements of Purna Yoga, along with the basic yoga lingo, some vital anatomical information, and how to work with props.
Whitney and Letitia have been married for 27 years. They started practicing yoga together in 2003 when Letitia convinced Whitney to be her student for a teaching practicum. They started team-teaching in 2020 when the pandemic necessitated moving online, and now they’re taking those team teaching skills back into the studio. Two teachers means plenty of individual attention as well as group-led instruction and is the ideal way to quickly get up to speed on the basics of yoga.
Letitia has been teaching yoga for almost 20 years, and some of her favorite students to work with are total beginners stepping on to the mat for the first time. She loves demystifying both yoga poses and yoga philosophy by deconstructing complex concepts and movements into simple, accessible pieces. When you study with Letitia, you learn the point of the poses, the basic actions of the poses, and how to practice the pose for your body in a way that is effective while encouraging growth and change.
“I love working with beginners and introducing them to the basic tools they need to start yoga. Once you start practicing, you gain access to all the benefits of a yoga practice, like improved mobility and strength, greater focus, decreased stress levels, and a calm nervous system.” – Letitia
Whitney has been teaching yoga since 2017. His soothing voice and imagistic language invite you to drop into your own practice and listen to your inner teacher. “I started doing yoga because I needed some kind of exercise regimen. I’d always been bookish, and it seemed like I ought to do a token ‘something’ for my physical health. What I discovered, once I worked through the basic physical transformation to a more active body, was that yoga as a discipline also had positive mental and emotional benefits. Purna Yoga & Heartfull Meditation addresses the entirety of a person – the mind, body, and spirit (or whatever you want to call it) — and it does so in a very specific and practical way. It has connected me more with movement and physicality, has balanced out and engaged me more with my emotions and instincts, and has taught me a lot about seeing perspectives other than the ones running around in my head.”
This is an in-person class and is limited to 15 participants.
This series is for absolute beginners as well as anyone who wants to cultivate a beginner’s mind. We will move at a beginner’s pace, with no yogi left behind.
