These workshops will help soothe your mind and foster an open-hearted attitude in any situation. Each session is designed to help you explore the idea of effortless effort, connect deeply with your inner self, cultivate tranquility, and develop resilience.
One of the defining lessons of modern life is our deep interconnection and interdependence. Sutra 1.33 of The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali offers a practical framework for cultivating intentional connection with ourselves and others, so we can cultivate intentional connection with ourselves and others, reducing suffering and nurturing happiness.
In these four interconnected workshops, this sutra–and the four qualities it describes–will be our guide. In each session, Cindy will invite us to cultivate one of these qualities (friendliness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity) through asana, meditation, breathwork, and philosophical discussion. Let this workshop series be an opportunity to explore a new perspective on how to quiet the mind, decrease discontent, and develop clarity and freedom, the benefits of which we can share with others.
These four qualities–also called the Four Immeasurables–are some of Cindy’s favorite things to share with students. For each session, she will focus on one quality and let it be the focal point for the asana, breathwork, and meditation to follow. For example, through asana we’ll explore the felt sense of openness, which is an attribute associated with friendliness or loving kindness. Through the practice of meditation, we’ll experience benevolence for ourselves and then send that feeling out to others. When you move into a yoga pose, can you find joy and contentment? Can you move your attention throughout your entire body to discover the places where you hold dissatisfaction? By honing and practicing these qualities on the yoga mat, you learn to transfer them to daily life to become more peaceful and accepting—independent of external circumstances.
And we’re spreading these workshops out over four months so you have an opportunity to take time to practice what you’ve learned and see the changes that unfold in your life as a result of exploring each month’s quality. Join us for just one or all four of these special workshops with long-time Asheville teacher, Cindy Dollar.
Knowledgeable and approachable, Cindy creates a safe environment in which she guides students to explore yoga’s benefits, as expressed in sutra 1.33 of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali (as translated by B.K.S. Iyengar): “Through cultivation of friendliness, compassion, joy, and indifference to pleasure and pain, virtue and vice, respectively, the consciousness becomes favorably disposed, serene and benevolent.”
