Core strength supports all of our daily activities. Every time we take a step, pick something up, or even have an impromptu dance party, we are using our core muscles. Learn more efficient and effective movement—learn to live within your core.
The core is a beautiful and complex system. In anatomical terms, the body is divided into two parts: the axial body (head, neck, trunk) and the appendicular body (limbs). The core is the central axis of our bodies, made up of a group of muscles whose strength radiates from the inside out. When the axial body is strong, the appendicular body is free. In Purna Yoga, we think of the core as a barrel with an outer (core muscles) and an inner (abdominal organs) layer. In our core movements, we work toward a strong outer and a calm inner.
In this workshop, we will explore the relationship between biomechanics and ancient yogic practices that help retain and reclaim our energy. You will learn biomechanical concepts of how the core creates more efficient and effective movement, as well as the yogic practice of mula bandha (pelvic lock; “an elegant kegel”). We will work from the inside out and the outside in, strengthening not only our physical core but the core of ourselves.
When we are connected to and grounded in the core, we feel more stable, powerful, and capable in our bodies and our lives. Join me for a fun afternoon, Living Within the Core. – Hannah Berlin
