Learn simple, practical movements to create space in and bring re-alignment to the knee joint, while strengthening the muscles that act on the knee with this hybrid workshop.

The basic protocol for therapeutic work in Purna Yoga is: open, realign, and strengthen. We work specifically in this order because we want to loosen up muscles that affect the area of discomfort, then realign the joint(s) in the area, and finally strengthen the muscles around the area once space and balance have been attained. Strengthening comes last in order to avoid strengthening current imbalances that might be factoring in the problem.

This is the plan we will follow in this workshop. You’ll learn three types of poses for the knees: ones that open, ones that realign, and ones that strengthen. Through Letitia’s guidance and your own intuition as well as building upon previous knowledge gained from health professionals concerning your specific knee issues, you’ll leave this workshop with preventative and curative strategies for mitigating knee pain as well as learning more about how your knees work and why you might be experiencing knee pain in the first place.

Knee therapeutics was one of my first areas of study when I began my therapeutic training with Aadil Palkhivala. It quickly became an area of interest, and I loved helping students handle knee issues. In the last few years, I've had two knee injuries that have given me personal perspective on knee pain, and I've added even more to my healthy knees toolkit. Knee therapeutics has truly become my passion now, both for me and my students, and I look forward to sharing what I've learned in this workshop. – Letitia Walker

 


WORKSHOP OVERVIEW

In this workshop, you will:

  • Learn more about the knee joint, both in basic anatomy and biomechanics
  • Explore simple poses and movements to open, realign, and strengthen the knees
  • Move forward in life with less pain and stiffness in the knees

We’ll also discuss nutritional aspects of knee health and meditation techniques that can help to address the energetic aspects of knee issues.

Join us in-person or online to learn more about the philosophy that is the foundation of Purna Yoga and leave with tools to support your personal evolution.


Prerequisites

This workshop is ideal for individuals experiencing current or chronic knee pain, as well as teachers looking to expand their healthy knees toolkit. Please note, you should be able to get down to the ground to practice some poses.


Recommended Props

This workshop will be fairly prop-heavy. To get the most out of this experience, it would be helpful to have:

  • two 6 to 8-foot yoga straps that can be looped
  • three to four yoga blankets
  • a long dowel around 1-2″ in diameter (this could be a broom handle)
  • a pair of 4″ yoga blocks as well as a thin block or pad (2″)
  • a yoga chair or a folding chair with a flat seat and open back (or something similar)

Class Details
  • In-person attendees are capped at 18 participants.
  • Online participants: Live attendance is not required. All students will receive the class recording, which will be available until November 25th.
